to broaden the portfolio of upland cotton fibre types for delivery into Asian high-count ring pinning

measured the associations between lint yield and fibre properties of cotton(length,strength,micronaire,linear density,maturity)

strong negative association between fibre properties and yield still exit

it inhibit the development of the elite cultivars competitive

Knowledge of the nature and extent of the association will assist with developing breeding stragies to minimise the yield penalty

Methods

Screening

screen at F3 for fibre quality

advanced to progency rows

screened again for quality and yield

Planting

in rows 100cm apart

inter-row cultivation before flowering

harvested at maturity

Sampling

take 350 subsamplle to determine lint fraction and fibre quality

Processing data

use linear regression to analyze data from US and AUS

determine the association between lint yiel and fibre length,strength,micronaire,fibre maturity and fineness

Results

negative correlation

lower slope for the AUS data

higher yielding genotypes with longer fibres in the AUS data

different slopes in AUS data:2008(the greatest),2004(the least)
