InadditiontocountryhousesandopenspacestheTrustnowownssomeexamplesofancientwindandwatermills,naturereserves,fivehundredandfortyfarmsandnearlytwothousandfivehundredcottagesorsmallvillagehouses,aswellassomecompletevillages.Inthesevillagesnooneisallowedtobuild,developordisturbtheoldvillageenvironmentinanywayandallthehousesaremaintainedintheiroriginalsixteenth-centurystyle.Overfourhundredthousandacresofcoastline,woodland,andhillcountryareprotectedbytheTrustandnodevelopmentordisturbanceofanykindarepermitted.Thepublichasfreeaccesstotheseareasandisonlyaskedtorespectthepeace,beautyandwildlife.
