解州关帝庙，位于距运城市西南20公里的解州镇。创建于隋初，历经修葺扩建。建筑面积18576平方米。是全国所建关帝庙宇中最大的一座。因此有"武庙之冠"的盛誉。关羽，字云长，解州人。三国时期蜀汉名将。一生以忠义仁勇著称。关羽死后被历代帝王不断追封，由公候而帝而武圣，祠庙遍及全国，香烟鼎盛，历久不衰。解州关帝庙系宫殿式建筑，四周围设宫墙，青砖红垣，门坊巍峨，雕梁画栋，飞檐斗拱，殿堂楼阁，鳞次栉比，堂皇富丽。碑碣题匾历数，古柏虬参天，气势肃穆，宏伟壮观。建筑布局分为结义园和主庙两大部分。主庙又分前朝后宫，从端门开始，由南向北，雉门、午门、御书楼、崇宁殿、春秋楼等依次排列，两边石牌楼、木牌坊、钟楼、鼓楼、刀楼、印楼、东西廊房，左右对称，主次分明，布局严谨。主殿崇宁殿回廊26根螭龙石柱气势磅礴，殿内、殿前悬挂康熙、乾隆、咸丰皇帝手书钦定牌匾。主建筑春秋楼二楼为悬柱式建筑，26根木柱吊挂回廊，精巧奇妙，是我国古代建筑中的孤例和珍品。被列为全国重点文物保护单位。

这座已有142017年历史的古建筑群，规模相当宏大，面积达一万八千多平方米，是由南北两部分组成。南为结义园，内有君子亭、三义阁、牌坊、假山……周围桃林茂密，身临其境，大有"三结义"的风韵。隔着一条马路，关帝庙的主要精萃都集中在北部。

如今大庙，第一道门已封住，游客从西侧门入，一眼望到红砖砌起的"万代瞻爷"牌坊上，横挂着"扶汉人物"、"大义参天"、"精忠贯日"三块大匾。仅仅十二个字。却多么精辟、多么高度地概括、评价了这位"五虎上将"之雄。

进午门，是幢宽大的敞开式大殿，清时曾被大火烧毁，重建至今仅六十余年。这里吸引人的地方是几米高的周仓、廖化的塑像，和几十幅关羽生平、事迹的"连环画"。诸如《桃园三结义》、《白马坡》、《诛文丑》、《灞桥桃袍》、《古城会》、《千里走单骑》等，生动形象地再现了关羽一生主要经历。

关于关羽，这里一直流传着他许多神话：原来，他是颗火龙星，一次被玉皇大帝指派到凡间烧掉不忠、不义的万户村。他作为老翁，来到人间，忽见一妇女怀里抱着大孩，却让刚会走路的小孩行走。很是不解，一问才知，她是大孩的继母，小孩才是自己亲生。听后非常钦佩，她家就在万户村，怎忍心伤害这种好人呢!他没有烧掉这个村庄，回到天宫，玉皇大帝定要问斩，于是化作一团彩云升起，拖得很长很长，人们感激地望着"观云长"。时值大旱，世间渴望下雨，所以又叫"观雨"，也就是关羽了……
