AsabasicskillinEnglishstudying,correctspellingplaysagreatimportantroleincommunication.However,nowadays,moreandmorestudentstendtopaylessandlessattentiontoitsteadoffocusingononlyspeaking.

Basedonrelatedsurveys,thefollowingcanbeconcludedtocontributetothesituation.Ontheonehand,somestudentsthemselves,toavoidmakinggreateffortsinspelling,prefertochoosesucheasywaystostudyEnglishasthroughE-dictionariesorcomputers,thatusuallycausesthemtomakesomemistakesinspelling.Ontheotherhand,agreatnumberofteachersseemtobemoreconcernedwithgrammarandvocabularybutnotspellingintheirteachingpracticetoimprovestudents’grades;therefore,studentsinappropriatelyspendlesstimeandattentionontheirspelling.

AsfarasI’mconcerned,therearemanypossiblemeasurestobetakentosolvetheproblem.Tostudents,besidesrealizingtheimportanceofspellinginexamsanddailycontacts,theyshouldwriteasmuchastheycantoformagoofhabitofstudying,thatis,“neverreadbooksunlesswritesomenotes|”.Toteachers,theyshouldbestricterwithstudentsincorrectspellingandmakedictationsbeaclasscompulsorytask.Onlybyjointeffortsofstudentsandteacherscanthemisspellingproblembesolved.
